What If You Don’t Need The Whole Map?

August 10, 2026 | New Life Team

What-If

Recently, while teaching Sunday school about how God gives us unique talents to serve Him, a child asked me a simple question: “So, what is my talent?”

As I encouraged them to step out, try new things, and pray, I had a surreal moment. It felt as if I was looking at my younger self.

God was using my own words to speak directly to my heart, giving me the exact encouragement I needed to hear.

It reminded me that when we step up to serve others, God often ends up ministering to us at the same time.

Throughout the week, I kept reflecting on how we often act just like that child when it comes to God’s calling. We want Him to hand us a complete blueprint for our future before we agree to take a single step. We crave absolute certainty.

But His direction rarely works that way. It is much more like driving at night. Headlights don’t light up your entire hundred-kilometer journey all at once; they just illuminate the next few meters in front of you.

« By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. »

Psalm 119:105

That beam of light doesn’t reveal the whole destination; it gives you just enough clarity to take the very next step safely.

You will never figure out God’s beautiful plan for your life by standing perfectly still.

You discover your talents, your calling, and your purpose simply by moving forward and trusting Him along the way.

What is one small step you have been hesitating to take because you can’t see the whole picture yet? I encourage you to talk to God about it today, and take that step.

He holds the full map in His hands, and He will always make sure you have enough light for the next kilometer.
