The Treasures Right in Front of You

Have you ever spent ten minutes looking for your glasses only to discover they were on your head the entire time?
Or stepped on a LEGO in the middle of the night and instantly knew exactly which child left it there?
Family life is full of moments like that. Some make you laugh, some test your patience, and some become stories that your family will keep telling for years.
In my pastoral care encounters, I often meet people who are waiting for something bigger. A breakthrough. A change. A new season.
It is easy to become so focused on what is ahead that you miss the gifts that are already part of your everyday life.
In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of a woman who loses a silver coin. She lights a lamp, sweeps her house, and searches carefully until she finds it. When she does, she celebrates. The coin had value, and finding it filled her heart with joy.
« For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. »

When I read this story, I think about the treasures that can be hiding in plain sight. A conversation around the dinner table. A laugh shared with your children. A quiet moment with your spouse. A phone call from someone you love.
These moments may seem ordinary, yet they often become the memories you treasure most.
I have learned that joyful families are rarely built on a handful of big events. They are built through countless small moments that are noticed, appreciated, and shared.
This week, take a moment to slow down. You may discover that some of life’s greatest treasures have been right in front of you all along.
