Baptism is an outward and public demonstration of an inward decision: the decision to follow Jesus.

It is a gesture of acknowledgement and representation that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, so that each one of us can have eternal life. Getting baptized is publicly declaring that you are now walking on a new path of faith in Jesus and committing to follow Him on this journey.
